PAGASA WARNS OF POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES ACROSS MINDANAO

MINDANAO, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned residents across Mindanao of possible flash floods and landslides as moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall is expected in several areas from October 10 to 11, 2026. The weather disturbance is associated with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which may bring cloudy skies, rain showers, and thunderstorms across parts of the island.

The weather advisory covers the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Communities in these areas are encouraged to prepare for changing weather conditions, especially in locations that are prone to flooding and rain-induced landslides.

Heavy rainfall can cause water levels in rivers and waterways to rise quickly, potentially affecting residential areas, roads, and nearby agricultural communities. Low-lying locations and settlements near creeks and riverbanks may be particularly vulnerable to sudden flooding, while areas with steep slopes may face an increased risk of landslides when the soil becomes saturated.

The possible impact of the rainfall also raises concerns about transportation and daily activities. Flooded roads and reduced visibility may create hazardous conditions for motorists, commuters, and residents traveling between communities. Farmers and outdoor workers are likewise encouraged to monitor weather developments and adjust their activities when necessary.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and regularly check official weather bulletins from PAGASA for updates on rainfall conditions and possible warnings. Families living in flood-prone or landslide-prone areas should identify safe routes and evacuation locations, prepare essential supplies, and follow instructions from their respective local government units and disaster risk reduction offices.

Local authorities are also encouraged to continue monitoring vulnerable communities and waterways, disseminating timely advisories, and preparing appropriate response measures should conditions worsen. Residents should avoid crossing flooded roads or flowing water, as even seemingly shallow floodwaters can pose serious risks.

As the rainy conditions continue, public awareness and early preparation remain important in reducing the possible effects of flooding and landslides. Communities across Mindanao are urged to prioritize safety, stay informed through reliable sources, and take precautionary measures while waiting for further weather updates.
